Plumbing in the Home/Hot water heater T&P Valve gushing

Question
We have a 3 year old hot water heater that has started gushing water out of the discharge line of the T&P Valve.  It happens when we are doing laundry mostly but maybe also when we are showering and then stops when we are done.  I've only noticed it happening in the the morning, BUT that really is when we are using the most hot water.  Initially when I called the manufacturer they said to replace the valve but that just doesn't make sense to me.  It seems like the valve is opening and closing properly...instead it seems like there is a temperature or pressure issue causing the valve to open.  What do you think?  Should we bother changing the valve, is it likely we need a new heater, or is there probably something else going on?  Thanks for you help!

Answer
Thanks for the question.  I would replace the valve once.  That way if it is a faulty valve you have fixed it.  If the ond one was good - then you have not done any harm!  If the new one has the same problem, then I would start checking the water pressure in your house, maybe you need a pressure reducing valve....
