Question I'm replacing the angle stop valve and supply line under my kitchen sink on the hot water supply. Is it okay to just shut off the hot water supply via the water heater to do this? Or do I need to shut it off at the water main?
The old (hot) water supply line has a leak in it, and it is soldered to the angle valve. I just don't want to end up with a kitchen full of water when I go to remove the old valve. Thank You!
Answer Good morning Mary, It's OK to shut down the hot water at the heater but you will have to tell anybody else in the house that if they use a one handled faucet they will have to keep it on the cold side only. If they open up the hot side you will get a backflow of water into the hot water system. It's safest to shut the house down unless you live alone. You will need soldering skills and tools to replace the supply line unless the old angle stop is a compression fitting. Good luck and thank you for rating my reply. Tom
