Thank you for your reply.  I do appreciate a sarcastic sense of humour, which is why I picked up on the possibility that this WAS your sense of humour (I enjoy Seinfeld).  Being email though, makes it difficult to determine whether it's humour or not.  I'm glad yours was just humour.   Thanks for the fun, and advice on my drain. -------------------------

Mr. Tieger - Obviously, if someone contacts you on this site for your expertise with a plumbing issue, they want to know
A)what you think the problem is... and B)what you think they can do about it.  That goes without saying. It's called ELABORATION. That is after all, what this site is about...  experts giving advice.  
Now, if by chance it was just your sense of humour...  funny,  but it should have been followed by some proper advice.  Thank you.

Hello

Every time I run warm/hot water to start a shower, there seems to be an unpleasant gassy type odur coming from the drain.  Do you know what this is?

Sue, you only asked if I thought I knew what may cause the smell and I said Yes I do.

You never asked what can be done to stop it.

I would try pouring Clorox into the drains letting it sit for 15 minutes then let the water run for 2 minutes.

This should kill the bacteria that maybe causing the smell
