Question Hi there - after I flush the toilet and the tank is filling in the main floor bathroom there is a loud noise coming from the pipes that sounds like it is vibrating. The noise lasts about 10 to 20 seconds but stops before the tank is full. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot and fix this problem? All the pipes are in the basement and are accessible.
Much appreciated,
SF
Answer Hi Sebastian,
It's not the pipes that are the cause of the noise, it's your ballcock. The pipes just pick up the vibration and carry it throughout the system. You may try several cures.
You can start to close down the chrome angle stop a bit as the vibration is going on untill it stops or you can shut off the supply and remove the three screws on the ball cock and pull the rod and float ball assembly off, hold a can over the top to prevent splash and turn the water back on for a second to flush out and crud that might be causing the problem. You might also reverse the washer. now reassemble and see if it isn't better. Hope this helps and thank you for rating my reply, Tom
