Question Hi!
No worries about home heating questions, at least not today.
I have a plumbing problem, and you are my last resort before a have to call an in-person plumber.
I'm a plumbing klutz, but am doing my best: The hot water tap in my bathroom sink was dripping. I changed the washer, and noticed that the ring thingy on the top was worn, so i repaced it with one i thought was the same. After i got everything together again, the drip stopped, but it leaks like crazy under the sink. The water runs down the the pipe from the hot water tap.
I went to the plumbing supply store and asked about the ring and the washer, which looked as bad as the old one, though i'd just replaced it. The guy there said the seat (i think that's what it's called, the washer connects with it) must be worn, and told me how to replace it. I did that, now the tap doesn't leak around the base any more (it was doing that too) but still leaks under the sink.
I hope i've explained the problem well enough. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Answer Hi Cathy, If I understand you correctly you have replaced the seat, washer and the bonnet packing but still have a leak where the hot water supply connects into the hot water tap under the sink. Is that correct? If so, there is a easy fix but you will need a special tool to do it. A "lavatory basin wrench" is needed to get up there and tighten the nut that secures the supply line to the valve. This wrench will get you into tight spots and is comparatively inexpensive when compared to a service call just to crank down on a connection and tighten it. If your hot water faucet is a single valve you might want to get someone to hold it from turning while you tighten the supply connection. Good luck and thank you for rating my reply. Tom
