About Jesse Moser
Expertise
I specialize in the Plymouth Duster from 1970 to 1973, allthough 1974 through 1976 Dusters are nearly identical. 340s, Twisters, Feather Dusters (the cars!), whatever "A" body Duster you have, I can probably give you some info.

Experience
I own a 1973 Duster with the Twister options package. I've been searching for information on this specific car since 1995 and have acquired much general and specific knowledge in the process. Organizations belong to: Mopar Mailing List

Plymouth (Including Neons) - dodge neon air intake

Expert: Jesse Moser - 9/29/2003

Question
hi this is just a quick question. i have a 2001 neon and i love the way that the engine sounds when I take the top airbox off. is it allright to do this? will the air filter have a shorter life? or should i buy a k&n to do this.

Answer
Michael, since Neons aren't really my forte', I'm not sure how everything is put together, but without the top on your airbox, the filter is probably not secured like it should be. If this is so, there could be dirt getting into your engine, even if you can't see it.  Also, even if the filter is properly held on, you will most likely reduce the life of the filter, although it should increase airflow as well.  If all you're after is the sound, you can purchase any number of open element air intake systems that look like the K&N you mentioned, but without the high cost.  For added performance gains, the K&N, or other similar lifetime high flow filters are best, but unless you actually race the car on the track with a clock, you'll likely never see the difference.
The parts and information are widely available, especially on the 'net, you just have to look around.
