Subject: Is it Mortons Neuroma?

Question
I have been in severe pain for 4 month. 1st Podiatrist diagnosed neuroma and gave one cortisone injection, no relief. 2nd podiatrist gave 2 alcohol injections, no relief. MRI did not show a neuroma but some osteoarthritis. NSAIDs did not bring any relief. Closed shoes can barely be tolerated because it triggers sharp nerve pains on top of the foot and between the 3rd and 4th toes on both feet. The podiatrist wants me to see a neurologist. She thinks it may be neuropathy. Is there a podiatrist that does cryotherapy in the Virginia Beach or Hampton, VA area. The current podiatrist did not think much about this type of treatment. I'm 48.

Answer
Hi Marion,

It is hard to say if you have a neuroma but some of the symptoms sound similar.  There are issues with a neuroma on MRI, the pt has to be positioned properely and the radiologist has to know what they are viewing.  I have had countless radiologists miss a neuroma.

You need to see a cryosurgeon and have an evaluation.  See the names below.  I do not know these drs but this is a start.

Sincerely,

Marc Katz, DPM
