Podiatry - Chronic Foot Pain

Expert: Dr George Tsatsos - 10/22/2009

Question
Dear Dr. Tsatsos,

I've experienced pain in both of my feet for about a year or two now. The pain almost always occurs when I'm lying in bed or lying on the floor. The pain also seems to come about when I pull my toes inward towards the bottom of my feet. In both feet, the pain usually occurs towards the center of the feet but in line with the big toe. It only lasts for not much longer than ten seconds, and it's not a big deal, but because I conduct a lot of research on both the Internet and with papers, and because it's convenient for me to lay on the floor and spread out all of the papers while I'm working, I was just wondering if you have any idea what's happening.

Thank you,
Jake

Answer
This Chicago Podiatrist says...
Sounds like tendonitis of the insertion of the posterior tibial tendons. The reasons for the tendonitis are usually overuse and mechanical in nature. Can be from long hours of standing, increased weight, etc. Can be from a little arthritis in the area which would cause minor discomfort until movement occurs and the area becomes "internally lubricated" with joint fluid after you start the initial move. Similar to plantar fasciitis.
Check out our website AnkleNFoot.com for additional info on plantar fasciitis.
If you want to try something before you see a podiatrist, you can try arch supports. Our products are medical grade and priced competitively.

We are located in Chicago and do second opinions.
Good Luck!
Hope this helps!
