Podiatry - Ball of foot scarring after surgery.
Expert: Dr George Tsatsos - 11/3/2009
Question At the beginning of this year, I had surgery to remove what turned out to be a pseudo sarcoma from the ball of my foot, directly below my big toe. My foot surgeon removed a mass around 2 inches by 3 inches from inside my foot resulting in scar tissue. In August I had the painful scar tissue removed and now the scar is just as painful as before the second surgery! I am at a loss. My surgeon said that another surgery was not an option for him, since there really is not enough tissue there to operate on. I need advice, should I see a orthopedic or even a plastic surgeon. Please any suggestions would be of great help.
Answer This Chicago Podiatrist says....
Go see a plastic surgeon that does post-trauma reconstruction or post-burn.
They usually will have the best training in scar revision and difficult scars.
Ask your podiatrist to help locate a local plastic surgeon. He/she should be able to tell from the credentials if they do that kind of work.
You can also try a local University Hospital.
We do second opinions, work with other doctors when we need to, and are located in Chicago
Hope this helps!
Good Luck!
