Podiatry/Cysts on ball of foot

Question
The cyst has eaten away at the bone and he is saying I need a bone graft to replace the bone loss.  My Dr. says he has never had a case like this.  I am seriously seeking getting a second opinion but I don't know whether I should get one from a podiatrists or an orthopaedic that specializes in feet.  Can you help me? and is this a common situation.  I haven't been able to find anything online about cysts in the ball of the foot.

Answer
Hi Michelle,

I would actually see a rheumatologist and then possibly an endocrinologist to see if you have some unusual bone disease.  I would then seek several opinions from a podiatrist or orthopedist based on the recommendation of the other specialsts.

I would not recommend that anyone just go in and bone graft without investigating the cause.

I would also recommend that you get an MRI.

Sincerely,
