I have had pain on the top of my foot, in the middle (where it is rounded, on the big toe side for approximately 4-5 weeks. The pain was worse when I walked down stairs but now seems to be hurting almost all day now. It is now sore upon waking in the morning. I bought new tennis shoes thinking it could be the shoes but it has been over 2 weeks and seems worse. I had an x-ray which was negative about 1 week ago. The hop test causes a lot of pain. I am concerned because I am a nurse and make a living on my feet. I am 37 years old. What should my next step be? Should I make an appointment with a orthopedic or a podiatrist? Thank you! Any advice would be appreciated.
Answer Dear Joy,
This Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661,Roscoe Village 60618,Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says...
For your foot pain-see a Board Certified Podiatrist in Ankle Orthopedics or Surgery submits 75 surgical cases to be certified in the foot & or ankle.
A Board Certified Orthopedist may submit at most 12 foot & ankle cases to be certified
An Orthopedist who does a Fellowship in Foot & Ankle Surgery would be equivalent to a good Board Certified podiatrist.
Seek a Board Certified/Eligible Podiatrist. They can usually retake the x-ray same time as the visit & give a diagnosis without sending you to a lab.
Bring your x-ray with you if you can-may limit the redo views. There may be some mild arthritis of the joints in the area you describe.
Hope This Helps!
