Podiatry/Bump on the back of knee?

Evening Dr Tsatsos,

The back of my wife's left knee has this bump on it. It's bone (hard), and it's located where the fibula's supposed to meet the collateral ligament. At first glance, it appears like the left fibula's more slanted outward than the one in the right leg. I attached a regular photo and an x-ray photo from the front of the knee.

She said there's no pain associated with the condition, and she had never injured the knee or the muscles badly (to the point of tearing any muscles or fracturing any bones), just normal light injuries, scrapes, bumps. My wife loves to run, and the doctors she had consulted with told her that she must not run anymore, lest the condition got worse. "After all, you're over 30, time to stop running and take it easy," that's what all of them told her. This pissed her off to no end.

Would you be able to tell if there's anything wrong with her knee? Anything she should/should not do?

Thank you.

Dear Ted,

The doctors are wrong about giving up exercise. It is exercise & diet that extends & improves life. If the bump appears to be new, growing or painful-then I would seek a second opinion. If it does not hurt-I would still protect it if it feels weak and run to tolerance-a second opinion here can't hurt either. Wear good gym shoes also.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck!
