Question Dr. Katz, My husband has had dorsal surgery a year ago and had cryo 4 weeks ago in the Mpls.,St. Paul area, no relief and Lyrica does not help anymore. I am considering a pain management clinic. Left foot, several doctors, no relief. What do you think of pain management doctors for this difficult to treat problem. Or do you recommend a second cryo? Thank you so much. Teresa
Answer Hi Teresa,
I believe pain management is appropriate for certain foot problems. However, I personally would not give up yet. A Podiatrist is still your best option. Pain medications are not the answer and Lyrica rarely works for this condition.
I would absolutely repeat cryosurgery for the neuroma several times using different approaches.
Did your Dr use a nerve stimulator to locate the nerve? Was the freeze done from the top of the foot or behind the toes on the bottom?
I have found that patients that have had a regular surgery will need several cryosurgeries for relief. Please send me more details about the cryo.
Sincerely,
Marc Katz, DPM
