About LG
Expertise
Hello, Dear Reader. My name is LG. I'm able to answer most of your questions about ALL POKEMON GAMES.

Since I became an Expert in this category (+- 5 years ago), I became fascinated by the internal structure of Pokémon and I started to check all game info and all game research data. As a Pokémon Trainer, I know a lot about all game walkthroughs, stats, attacks, strategies, breeding, evolution and much more.

If I don't know the answer, I'll look it up for you or I'll redirect you to one of my Fellow Experts. I hope to read you soon! :)

Experience
About ten years ago I started playing Pocket Monsters with my first game, Pokémon Red. I became addicted to the game and bought its equivalent, Pokémon Blue and later on the special version, Pokémon Yellow. After that, I bought all the games of Pokémon that were released for the Game Boy platform by pre - ordering them in my local shop. I'm still checking the data of the Pokémon Research today, even data from the old First Generation.

Education/Credentials
Bachelor in Experimental and Theoretical Psychology.

Pokemon - F - U : Saved File Deleted Only In DS (FireRed)

Question
I have a problem to one earlier answered but didn’t answer the question for me! He asked
“I heard of save files deleting themselves due dead batteries and such, but the strange thing with my situation is that the file is only lost if I load my Diamond game in my DS with FireRed also in the DS. The save file will stay as long as I don't play Diamond, but I want to migrate Pokemon! Is this really my FireRed? Or can Diamond be doing this when it goes to read the game cart?

to be more specific, the FireRed game ALWAYS loads on a GBA or DS (with or without Diamond inserted) until I load my Diamond game with FireRed inserted. From then on, the FireRed game will NEVER load on a GBA or DS (with or without Diamond inserted). This whole process starts over if I start a new game and save it.”
You answered “There is probably something wrong with your DS. It can play both games seperately, but once you enter the FireRed game on your Pokémon Diamond, it probably erases the FireRed game due to a malfunction in the DS system that enables that function. I advise you to take your DS back to the store where you bought it and exchange it for a good functioning one. Have you already experimented with another game other then FireRed? How did that work out?”
I have ruby also and it works completely for my ruby I can play both Pearl and Ruby but not Pearl and fireRed! I also want to migrate pokemon from one game to the other HELP!
Thanks

Answer
Hi Jammie,

Like I promised, a follow - up about the DS migrating problem.

What strikes me when reading the complaints is that most of the games that have this problem are Pokémon FireRed. Only occasionally games like Ruby or LeafGreen are involved. At the moment it still isn't sure what the cause is. Two often mentioned causes are :

1) Dirt is the GBA slot of the Nintendo DS.
2) Pirated versions (i.e. copies) of Pokémon FireRed.

If your FireRed is second - handed, then the latter might be the cause. However, I don't advise you to buy a new copy, because also problems with brand new copies are reported.

My personal suggestion at the moment is that a certain firmware version of Pokémon FireRed is incompatible with the DS hardware. Maybe it is something like playing some games of Windows 98 playing on Vista : it just doesn't work.

Have you found out what the cause might be?

Hope to hear you back soon! :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Jammie,

Well, because Ruby works perfectly with your Pearl game but FireRed doesn't, the problem is not the DS or the Pearl game, but the FireRed game. That's why I asked Zach if he tried the whole thing with another game, because he was the first one to mention this kind of problem. He didn't answer.

Since you're the second one by whom this problem occurs and because I now have more information, I can now say with caution that the problem lies within the FireRed game. Futhermore, I did a quick search on Google. It appears that you're not the only one with this problem (and more specific with Pokémon FireRed). This finding confirms my statement from the beginning of the alinea.

I also found that the chances these saved file deletions occur, are more common with the DS than with the DS Lite.

The only thing I can say for the moment is that your saved file is probably lost forever and that, at this moment, there is no solution for your problem. I'll keep you in touch when new information comes available.

Good luck and have fun! :)

~LG~
