AboutLG Expertise Hello, Dear Reader. My name is LG. I'm able to answer most of your questions about ALL POKEMON GAMES. Since I became an Expert in this category (+- 5 years ago), I became fascinated by the internal structure of Pokémon and I started to check all game info and all game research data. As a Pokémon Trainer, I know a lot about all game walkthroughs, stats, attacks, strategies, breeding, evolution and much more. If I don't know the answer, I'll look it up for you or I'll redirect you to one of my Fellow Experts. I hope to read you soon! :)
Experience About ten years ago I started playing Pocket Monsters with my first game, Pokémon Red. I became addicted to the game and bought its equivalent, Pokémon Blue and later on the special version, Pokémon Yellow. After that, I bought all the games of Pokémon that were released for the Game Boy platform by pre - ordering them in my local shop. I'm still checking the data of the Pokémon Research today, even data from the old First Generation.
Question QUESTION: so, i've finished ev training my onix and he's lv 50, so all i need now is to evolve him and find his moveset. I've decided to move on now and have been tossing ideas around for a new member. If you remember, i already suggested a spiritomb whose moveset you praised :), Unfortunately i can't GET it yet, so until then, how does this new idea sound?
Tentacruel: Maxed out sp. def and speed
Nature:timid or calm
barrier
double team
toxic spikes/toxic/confuse ray
surf
What do you think?
ANSWER: Hi David,
It is not bad, only, again, I don't think Tentacruel is stable enough to take hits before you can put up the Barrier / Double Team Combo. My advise is to give it a healing move like Rest. Or you can pass on your stat changes to another Pokémon with Baton Pass.
If you want a original - to - copy substitution, then Mismagius (the evolution of Misdreavus) is a good idea. Being a Ghost - only type and immunity to Ground attacks, it would be a very good alternative for your Spiritomb.
Good luck and have fun! :)

QUESTION: I like the mismagius idea, but i don't think , but right now, i really think i can pull the tentacruel idea into play, by giving it rest instead of surf. After i put up a good defense with barrier and double team(along with high sp. def and speed), I can start using toxic. If they switch out, i'll use toxic again. When hp gets low, i'll use rest. The double team should allow for at least one, if not both of the sleeping turns safety from attacks. I really like this idea and will give it a try. As far as natures go, i think i'll pull for speed.
Maybe for the last pokemon, i was thinking of a special sweeper gengar, with:
Shadow Ball
Psychic
Thunderbolt
Energy Ball/Focus Blast
or maybe a dark type...
ANSWER: Hi David,
Yes, that is a great idea, but still three remarks you have to keep in mind when you battle with Tentacruel :
- You cannot knock out a Poison Pokémon.
- The Pokémon with the abilities that prevent Poisoning in one or another way, cannot be defeated.
- You have some attacks that reduce the Toxic effect to a normal poisoning effect.
Not a bad idea to go for Speed when choosing Natures, but you can also go for it's Defense.
When choosing the first combination with Energy Ball, you cover 8 types. When choosing the second combination including Focus Blast, you cover 11 types. Focus Blast is more powerful attack than Energy Ball, but it is not very accurate (70%). It's up to you to balance the advantages / disadvantages of both attacks. Maybe a less powerful, but more accurate Fighting type can do the trick, but you probably loose the nice side - effect of lowering the opponent's Spec. Defense. There are also not very many Fighting types that use the user's Spec. Attack.
Gengar is a very good choice. Like Tentacruel, I think it is best to aim for Defense / Speed when it comes to Natures. Spedd and Spec. Attack are the best to max out, I think.
If you want a Dark type, then choose a killer like Crawdaunt or Sharpedo. They are part Water, which also is a very good type to have on a team.
Good luck and have fun! :)

QUESTION: Yeah, it's actually quite funny cuz i originally thought of using Craudant as my water type instead of tentacruel. But i felt the need to have more strategic strategies besides spiritomb(I'm almost positive that a team full of 6 killers has ALOT of weaknesses) When i was considering crawdaunt I decided on this moveset:
Night Slash
X-Scissor(or any other one of those powerful, hi-critical attacks)
Crabhammer
Swords Dance
max out defense/sp. def and speed, or atk and speed.
ADAMANT
I'm pretty sure it's easy to figure out that i've decided to scrap victreebel, for coming up with a successful moveset is hard.
Indeed, a team full of killers has a lot of weaknesses. Maybe this does not appear in a ordinary friend - to - friend battle (in my case my friends were terribly weak), but in competitive battling, you wouldn't get it to the second round.
It's not so strange we think about the same Pokémon, because 1) we both know something about Pokémon and 2) your strategy is quite similar to mine, only more attacking. I'm more a defensive player.
Maxing out is a matter of personal opinion (Crawdaunt has such good stats), but personally I would prefer a Careful Nature (more Spec. Defense, less Spec. Attack). Maybe also worth mentioning is the fact that if your Crawdaunt has 334 (or more) Attack points at L.100, he only needs to use Sword Dance two instead of three times.
Moveset is very good for a killer. Maybe it would be even more powerful if you Baton Pass the stat changes you made with Tentacruel and then Sword Dance.
So, let us assume Tentacruel is a stayer, then you only need to choose between Gengar and Crawdaunt. Well, that's choosing between the more speedy, but less surviving Gengar and the less speedy, but more surviving Crawdaunt. I would prefer Gengar if you don't use Baton Pass, but I would prefer Crawdaunt if you do Baton Pass.
