Expertise

Also questions concerning other Slavic languages, Sanskrit, Chinese, Tibetan, or general linguistics, especially scripts (writing systems and transcriptions) - are welcome.

Question
Hi there. As a tribute to my great grandfather, i want to go by a polish nickname. personally, i'm short. so is there an easy polish word for small or short?

Answer
Hi Morgan

A typical Polish nickname for "short" or "small" is "mały" ("mal-y" = l-with-a-bar), pronounce MAH-whi, "ah" like in "blah", or "a" in "Father"; "whi" like in the first syllable of "whiskey". The "MAH" syllable is stressed.

Regards

Maciej
