Hi hope you can help me i have a small garden pond here in the uk i have ofre and goldfish  and some small koi .. but i have two orfe that have got a green fur growing on there head and sides its like the algee that grow on the edges of the pond .. i have taken some water from the pond in a bucket and rubbed the orfe down in this water and it does seam to wipe off quite easy ..will this come off on its own or do they need treatments

Hi Roy,

Your fish are probably contaminated by a fungus called Saprolegnia.

This usually happens where fish are overcrowded or the water leaves much to be desired.

A salt bath  would take care of the problem.

For the salt bath you should use 1 kilogram of salt for every 100 liters of water in the pond.
The fish should be kept in this solution for no more than 10 to 12 days.
