Pond & Water Gardening - Fish disappearing

Expert: Eric Mathes - 5/11/2009

Question
I have a garden pond (for about 2 years). Yesterday all the fish disappeared - I thought something had taken them, then last night I went to look and they where all their. Again, today no sign of them. Why is this happening? A heron wouldn't be able to land in the back as it is only a small court yard. The fish are koi, shubukins and large goldfish.
Any suggestions or reason for this happening? Nothing new been introduced into the pond.
Many thanks
Beck

Answer
Hey Beck I feel like Sherlock Holmes.Well we know its not magic and that some animal is not taking them and then bringing them back. I would suspect that they have found a really good place to hide or a really funny neighbor. I have a salt water tank and one week 2 fish disappeared so I went and bought 2 more and 3 days later appeared the 2 fish that disappeared,go figure! Thanks Eric
