Pond & Water Gardening - pond filters

Expert: Eric Mathes - 5/21/2009

Question
hello i am building a new pond and was looking for a filter. and was wondering what the difference was between a uv filter and a uvc filter or are they the same.
thanks

Answer
Hey Robin a uv filter is a filter that filters the water and has a uv light. A uvc is a Ultra-Violet Clarifier. It clumps algae particles together to make them large enough for a filter to pick up. You would have to check but I think the uvc is just the light, filter sold separately. Make sure that any filter you get has a flow rate at least half the garden pond volume every hour or more if you have Koi, like a pump. Hope this helps. Eric
