Pond & Water Gardening - making a fish and goose friendly pond.

Expert: Brigitte - 7/2/2009

Question
I have two Chinese Geese and Four Coy fish, how can I make a pond friendly for both and decorative?

Answer
Hello Rose!
It will be difficult to make a functioning pond with that combination of animals. Both will eat any plant faster than they can grow and both will get large and produce huge amounts of waste.
You will need EXCELLENT filtration - double or triple what a normal pond would require.
A big aerating fountain in the middle would help with oxygen levels in the pond, which in turn helps the water to stay healthy.
It will also make the pond look very pretty.
