Question Looking on how to remove and replace airbag on the driver side of a 1999 pontiac grand am.engine size 2.4L.Also wanted to know why the anti lock light stays on and how to fix it.brought it for diagnostic at the dealship once but they couldn`t solve the problem.Any answer would be helpful.Thanks for your time,Gary
Answer Hi Gary.
You need a special tool to remove the screws that attacth the bag to the steering wheel. It's not something for the do it your self person to be doing. THEY ARE DANGEROUS to work with. Take it to a repair shop to be repaired properly. As for the anti lock brakes. Does the light come on right away before you even start moving the car? if si then there is a heard fault in the system somewhere. If you live in the rust belt as I do and this car has a lot of miles on it my first guess would be a rotted out EBCM which is the control module for the brakes it's in the l/f fender well and it has a tendency to fill up with water and distroy the connection between the car and the module. It's a VERY expensive fix if that is it. If not that then a front wheel speed sensor would be my second guess they have a tendency to short out to the chasis ground on these cars again from corrosion. They are not to bad price wise. Those are the 2 most common issues with the ABS system on this car. If you goto like an auto zone or orieleys or advance auto parts they can scan the car for codes and it will lead you into the right direction. Good luck :}
