Answer Hi Damien:
First off the easy part the brakes. You more than likely have front rotors that are warped severly. Replace the brake rotors with good quality parts. As for the transmission, Has any service engine light come on? If not it will make it harder to find the issue with it. Trasnmission do act differently when the are cold VS hot. If the shifts hard when it's hot I'd think possbaly you have a bad or sticking accumulator valve in the valve body. the accumulators absorb the shock of the shift chnages if one of them were binding up or sticking when the car gets hot it would shift hard. If it were a shift solenoid issue you wouldn't have a couple of forward gears and I'd bet money you would have a service engine lamp on. Either way this is nothing you can fix your self and is something your going to have to have looked at. I'd take it to a dealer rather than a transmission repair shop. for the most part they "repair shops" wand to sell you complete rebuilds or exchange units. If you take it to the dealer they will fix just what they need to. You may pay a bit more but they know exactlyu what to look for. Good luck :)
