Question
QUESTION: when car is started with factory remote and warmed up ,cold air comes out center vent only but when key is put in and turned on heater works normal. what could be the problem?

ANSWER: Hi Gary:

their is either a code in the system or a malfunction of some kind. Does this have auto climate contro? Maning digital controls for the temp setting? Early 2005 models had an issue with the HVAC control head being bad they had a redesigned control head that would address that issue. But Like I said ther can be a code in the system and that is why it's acting like that.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: took car to autozone and found no codes. what would be my next step?

Answer
take it to the dealer and have them scan the heater control head for the part # of the control head and have them check to see if it has the latest control head in the car. Per this service bulletin.

2005 Pontiac Grand Prix

This bulletin is being revised to add the Buick Allure/LaCrosse and update the parts information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-01-38-003A (Section 01 -- HVAC).

Condition
Some customers may comment that the HVAC system blows cold air from the instrument panel vents when using the remote start function. This means they are unable to warm-up the vehicle using remote start.
Or possably this one.

#05-01-39-005A: A/C Blows Warm Air From Vents When Using Remote Start (Reprogram PCM) - (Oct 21, 2005)

Subject: A/C Blows Warm Air From Vents When Using Remote Start (Reprogram PCM)

Attention:  Use GMVIS to determine vehicle build date. This bulletin only applies to vehicles built prior to May 26, 2005.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bulletin is being revised to update the warranty information with a new labor operation number. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-01-39-005 (Section 01 -- HVAC).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Condition
Some customers may comment that the A/C blows warm air from the vents when using the remote start feature. The A/C system will turn on to the last customer setting before key off after the customer enters the vehicle, inserts the ignition key and turns it to the run position.

You didn't mention what engine this car has and this second bulletin is a bit off from what you mentioned but I have seen this happen with the GXP option Grand prix.
