Pontiac Repair - 99 Pontiac Grand Am headlights do not work

Expert: Todd Puccio - 11/7/2009

Question
I have a 99 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl.  Tonight I turned on my car, and the running lights came on, but the headlights did not.  It was certainly dark enough - and the ALC never failed before.  I tried to manually turn them on using the turn signal switch - but no luck.  High beams and pass lights worked, as do the running lights, brake lights, fog lights and instrument lights.

Answer
Hey Jim:

It is possable that both lo beam bulbs burn out at the same time. Not very likley but it is possable. Yout going to have to unplug the bulbs and see if you have power and ground at the bulb connector with the lamps in the lo setting. If you do then you have bad bulbs. If not then you going to have to trace the loss of ground back into the car. On this car the head lamp switchc supples a ground path for the bulbs.
