Question Good morning Todd, I own a 1989 Pontiac 6000 LE, 2.8 liter engine with automatic transmission %26 air. The fan was not working so I replaced the fan motor and the fan worked only once. The car overheats occassionally. I have not used the air conditioner since my problems began. I bought this car from the original owner and it only has 72,500 original miles. I love the car but really can't afford to spend much money to keep it running well. Do you have any suggestions. You have answered questions for my dad in the past and we both sincerely appreciate your help. Chris
Answer Hi chris;
did this blow a fuse/fuesable link for the fan? does the fan come on when the a/c has been on for a minute or 2? if the fan comes on with the a/c the engine computer has the ability. to turn on the fan relay and then the fan run. if not then ther is an deeper then it can be a bad engine computer not commanding the fan relay on. it can be a bad fan relay. without the air of a engine scan tool it's hard to say for sure what the issue here is. you can try this the engien dignostic connetor under the dash turn the key on engine off key in the run position and then jump terminals a&b together with a paper clip and the fan should run. when you jump that it puts the computer into a daaignostin mode and it should turn on all tyhe relays that it controls and the fan should run if not it's one of the issues I mentioned above. Good luck :)
