Expert: Todd Puccio - 6/19/2009

Question
Its Summer and 100 degrees here. 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 3800 s2 engine and Ac blows strong and very hot. cooling system will not take anymore freon, compressor clutch spinning great with no slip, no oil or dye leak in system, temp actuator working great from what I can see when dial turns, both heater tubes to fire wall are hot, small ac tube is really cold and larger is pretty hot. I'm Hot, any ideas

Answer
Hi Brandon:

from the sounds of it I would say you have a a/c system isue here not anything in the heater case. the a/c tubes at the fire wall are oppisite of what they should be. the small tube should be warm and the large tube should be cold. Your gonna need a a/c manifold gauge set to see what the high and low pressure reading at on this car. You could have a restriction in the hi side line before the orfice tube. possably the compressor is comming apart on the iside and plugged up the screen on the orfice tube or if you charged this system with one of those do it your seld kits you may have over charged the system and it's acting like this.. With out knowing what the pressure reading are it's hard to say what the issue here is. Good luck :)
