Pontiac Repair - HVAC fan sqealing

Expert: Todd Puccio - 6/17/2009

Question
I have a 97 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, 3800 SC. The HVAC fan is squealing badly on all speeds.  Wondering if it can be greased, and if so, how best to get to it.  Or steps to get to it for replacement.  Thanks much!

Answer
Hi Celin:

no it's can't be greased. The factory replacement fan is redesigned and it comes as a kit with a new cover to go under the dash along withe the new fan. it's easy to replace you just have to remove the cover under the right side of the dash baord and then there are just 3 screws that attach the fan to the heater case and 1 electrical connector. It's about a 15 minute job. Do not replace it with an aftermarket part by the factory replacement at any dealership. Good luck :)
