Question I understand that one cannot predict how large or small their standard poodle will be, but with some relevant info, would you be able to "guesstimate" how tall the dog would be as an adult? Dam = 21.5"tall, Sire = 26". Right now at 10 weeks, the puppy is 14" at the withers and 16lbs. Thanks.
Answer Hello Karen,
You are right, its pretty hard to guestimate how big a puppy is going to be just by looking at it now.
What is its size in comparison to his/her littermates? If it is one of the larger puppies, I would say that it will be on the large side. Smaller, I would say on the small side. You also didn't say whether its a male or female. That can make a difference as Males tend to be larger than females. Feeding and Nutrition can also determine how big a puppy will get. Genetics can also play a part in size; what you see now is not always what you'll get.
Going by what you have told me about your puppys size now, I would say that your Pup could top out at 24"-25" at the shoulder and weigh around 55-60lbs, if its a male and 23"-24" at the shoulder and 40-50lbs if its a female.
It is only a guestimate, your pup could run larger or smaller.
If you know of any Show people in your area, you might ask them to look the puppy over. Some show people can feel the puppies growth plates in his/her legs and tell how big the puppy will be.
If you want to send me a pic of the litter and which puppy is yours in the litter, I may be able to tell you a more accurate height and weigh at adulthood.
