Question
I have heard that when purchasing a puppy (we are interested in a brown male Standard Poodle) that you should NOT buy one from a female Standard Poodle's Very FIRST litter, and that you should wait for her second or third litter.  Is that true?  And if it is, why is that?  Also, can you put us in touch with a "reputable" breeder of a brown male Standard?

Answer
Hello Gail,
Thats not always true that you not purchase a females first litter.  If the breeder breeds the female at the correct time, which is not until the female is at least 2 yrs old, then the puppies should be just fine.  What you do need to watch for is people who just want a litter for the money and don't care what they do to the female.
You should look for a breeder who cares about their dogs, will show you around their kennel (you don't want a puppy from someone who seems suspious or like they have things to hide), will introduce you to the parents and other puppies out of the parents, and who just seems willing to help you if you need it.

As far as finding a Reputable breeder in your area, check the papers first to see if any breeders are selling puppies there.  Next, go online and type into your search engine "(Brown) Standard Poodle Puppies in (your City and State)"
You might also contact the Vets and Groomers in your area to see if they know of any Breeders close to you.
If you have breeders in your area, but not Brown puppies, see if the breeder can point you in the right direction.

If you would like to send me your city and state, I will see what I can come up with.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
