Question
I have a gorgeous chocolate brown male toy poodle who will be 1 yr old on 5th August.  Is he ready to breed yet?  He is not fixed as yet and he is not KC registered.  How do I go about the whole process?  Tank you for your help.

Answer
Hello Mandy,
Since your boy is 1 yrs old, he is old enough to father puppies.  You should get him checked though before breeding to make sure that he doesn't have any health issues that could be passed down to future puppies.

As for the registeration process, you first need the puppy papers that you should have received from the breeder when you picked up your puppy.  If you don't have these papers, then you need to go to your dogs breeder and see if they have them.
If you do have them, fill them out in the section that says Paper Transfer, which will transfer the papers to you.  Fill out the dogs name that you want it to have, and your name, address, etc. then you will fill out what color your dog is, whether you want full registery or not (if you get a limited registery, your dog will be registered but his offspring won't be able to be registered) and if you want a color registery.
Then you mail the papers with the fee (I think its around $30.00)

You can also register on-line at http://www.akc.org and click on Register Online.  You might need to contact your Breeder first to do this to make sure that she has registered the father and mother.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.

Kim
