Subject: 8-ball time limit for shooting

Question
Was in a bar recently and an opponent was taking 4-5-6 minutes between shots, either to frustrate his opponent or get more out of his 75 cents.
As a result, I'd like to know if there's a time limit between shots when playing 8-ball?
Saw somewhere that in the UK, in tournaments with a referee, the time limit is 60 seconds.
Thank you.

Answer
Was this a tournament or just playing at a bar while drinking?  If it is a tournament, then some type of unsportsmanlike conduct rule could be in place that would force him to speed up play.  Some tournaments might have a 30 second or 60 second time limit, but that is based on the tournament format.  Most tournaments have no time limit and it is a judgement call by the players and/or referee.

If the player is doing this on purpose, then a referee should be called in.

If you are just at a bar playing, then thus guy is a jerk and you should tell him to speed it up!  There is NO REASON to take that long between EVERY shot.  The first shot of the game could take longer since you wantt o map out all 8 balls, but not every shot.

Tough call.

Just beat him and kick him off of the table to never play again.  I don't know.
