Question
QUESTION:
I grew up playing on a Brunswick anniversary addition table from the 1950's, it is a great table!

I have an opportunity to buy a Brunswick Monticello 1972 table.

In my research I see info on many Brunswick tables, but very limited on the Monticello.

Why so little said about this table?  Is it a quality table?

ANSWER: Well the Anniversary model got loads of publicity as Brunswick celebrated 100 years in business and they pushed sales of them pretty hard. Brunswick's product line is like Ford Motor's, they vary models from year to year. Some become well known while other's do not. I've played on Monticellos that played fine but I've never taken on apart to be able to say what the quality of one is within the range of quality tables Brunswick makes. It's a nice looking model though.

I sent a request to my contact at Brunswick asking for the specifications of an early 70's Monticello. I usually hear back from them in a day or two and will add comments to this response when I see what the description of construction is.

More as it happens,

Bill

QUESTION: I appreciate the quick response.  I know the anniversary edition had a long run, 15-20 years.  Also it was a very popular hall table.

I get the impression the Monticello was more of a retail (home model).

The person I'm talking to says it's a 9 foot table with 1" slate.  I'm sure it will be great in my basement.

I would definitely be interested in any additional information you receive.

Thanks again.

Answer
Yes, Brunswick specs agree with your description. Nine-foot table, one inch slate, superspeed cushions. Whether intended for home use or not the table will play the same. I grew up on Brunswicks too and still love their play. Even my 1890 Brunswick Wellington continues to play well.

The good folks at Brunswick sent me more details and also a pdf of the original owners manual. If you email me at bnewsted@yahoo.com I'll forward their message to you.

Cheers,

Bill
