Pool/Billiards - Storing slate from pool table
Expert: Bill Newsted - 10/26/2009
Question I am currently moving, I am not able to set up my pool table in my new house until the designated room gets new carpet and is taken away from the kids(toy room) I have my table apart but I would like to know the best position to store the three pieces of slate as they may be there for some time. on there side? am I able to stack them on top of each other?
thanks
Answer Hi Trent,
I always store slate flat. I figure if the slate has stayed flat on my table that's over a hundred years old in a horizontal position there's no good reason I should stand it up for storage.
I do have a four-wheeled dolly that is nearly as large as a piece of slate that I use to stack slate pieces on. That makes it easy to move them around as needed in my work area. I don't recommend that slate be stored flat on the floor in a basement or garage as slate will wick moisture if it's in contact with a damp surface. Any type of moisture proof barrier between the slate and such a floor will eliminate problems of this sort.
Best,
Bill
