Pool/Billiards - pool table markings

Expert: Ernie Reynolds - 10/29/2009

Question
hi Ernie i am a novice player and i bought a table with no markings
its an 8by4 maybe  slightly larger
and don't know where i should  put my markings for the white ball for breaks and to set the triangle.
would appreciate any help regards Joe

Answer
Hi Joe-

What you need to do is set the head spot and foot spot. If you look at the pool table layout graphic on this page - http://www.pool-for-beginners.com/pool_table_layout.html, you will see that the spots line up with the middle diamonds of the side rails. If you drew an imaginary line from one middle diamond to another you would have the head and foot strings. You place the head and foot spots in the center of these imaginary lines.

If your particular pool table doesn't have diamonds on the rails, find the center between the corner and side pockets and use these points as the ends of the head and foot strings. Again, place your head and foot spots in the center of the strings.

I hope this explanation was clear enough for you.

Good luck!
