Pool/Billiards - 9 ball

Expert: Ernie Reynolds - 11/1/2009

Question
if you combo the nine in and you scratch do you lose?

Answer
Hi David-

Although I cannot find anything in the rules that specifically says this, I am 99% sure that you do lose when you scratch on the 9-ball, whether you comboed it in or shot it directly. It would be the same as scratching on the 8 in 8-ball.

I did find a rule that says if you sink the 9-ball and the cue ball on the break, you just spot the 9 and the opponent takes over the shot. However, after the break, scratching on the 9 would result in a loss.

Good luck!
