Question in regulation 8 ball, what is the correct placement of racked balls?
Answer Of course, local rules always apply but the Billiard Congress of America tournament rules say:
4.3 RACKING THE BALLS
The balls are racked in a triangle at the foot of the table with the 8-ball in the center of the triangle, the first ball of the rack on the foot spot, a stripe ball in one corner of the rack and a solid ball in the other corner.
In simple English, any ball in front, eightball in the center and the bottom corners have a solid and a stripe.
I've seen all kinds of variations on this theme; solid stripe, solid, stripe all around etc. but officially: eightball in the middle and one solid and one strip at the bottom corners of the rack.
As I mentioned, local rules apply. Personally, I'll break any group of balls and take my chances as long as it's the same for everybody. Tell me how you want 'em and bring it on. ;-)
