Pot Bellied Pigs/PBP swollen vagina
We got Penelope over a year and half ago and had her spayed as soon as she was old enough. She never had a heat. Yesterday I noticed her vagina is very swollen and red. Its also feels rather warm maybe feverish. She didn't seem to be in any pain while I inspected her. Can pigs get issues such as UTI's like people do? Her diet is controlled and regulated..can what she eats cause this? I have also noticed when I have my "cycle" Penelope definately behaves differently getting grumpy and even likes to steal my laundry and put it in her bed! Could she be having some sort of "false heat" brought on by my own female nature? We are waiting on a call back from the vet for an appointment just impatient..Thanks!
I am not a veterinarian and can not make a medical diagnosis over the internet.
Yes, pigs can get UTI infections. They can also have allergic skin reactions, and sometimes insect bites can cause bad reactions.
Pigs are very aware of their owners, and do respond to how their owners are feeling.
I am not aware of any documented cases of "false heat". All the documented cases of "false pregnancy" that I am aware of turned out to be uterine tumors. These poor pigs were sold as "spayed" but in fact were not.
