Could I be Pregnant?! - implantation bleeding?

Expert: Sabra - 10/16/2007

Question
I am on yaz birth control.  I recently had my period; it was about 3 days late,
but it did come.  My period stopped for a day and then came back, BUT the
blood was a brown color, with some red mixed in.  A couple of days before
my period came, my boyfriend and I had sex and we did use a condom,
however we had an incident and some of the sperm MAY have gotten in me
(not positive)..anyways.. it is possible that the small amount of brown blood I
encountered for a day was implantation bleeding?  Implantation bleeding
occurs after ovulation right? BUT being on birth control I know that screws
things up with ovulation and what not.  CURIOUS and A LITTLE CONCERNED!
If it was the possibility of implantation bleeding, can I test before my next
period if I wait so many days????? DETAILS, INFORMATION, PLEASE and
THANKYOU!

Answer
Dear Concerned,
If your period stopped for a day and then came back in a darker color but with some red still mixed in, it's more likely that it was old blood that hadn't come yet.  I don't believe that it could be pregnancy, but if you're still concerned, I would get First Response and test 2 days before your expected period.  I hope everything works out for you.
