Question If Elvis was really a Christian, why was he interested in eastern
religions that contradict the Bible? There are books stating he followed several guru's, and I saw a New Age book in one of the displays at his mansion where he had underlined certain parts.
This certainly appears as if he was falling away from the Word of God, and that is so sad!, for God said that we can't have two masters..... It is either HIM or satan!
Answer Hi Zan. We may not agree on this one! Elvis was a seeker...........he was also very universal and accepted diversity and differences back when southerners didnt do so. Larry Geller began to influence Elvis. Elvis was an avid reader. Elvis had lost his way I believe being the ultimate people pleaser, but I dont believe for a minute he ever stopped believing in God and loving the Lord. He had a link to Jewish ancestry and wore the Star of David around his neck as well as the cross and would joke "I dont want to miss Heaven on a technicality." Elvis was looking for answers due to many contradictions in his life. His image had become more important than himself. He really didnt know who loved him for him.
I do personally believe that the excessive prescription cocktail of opiates, benzos and barbs colored his view of things including clouding his own personal beliefs. You have to remember that he also underlined scriptures in the Book of Mormon and wrote "this will help my daughter Lisa." Al Osmond tells about this and what he did with the Book read by Elvis.
I believe Elvis was a Christian and there are many who will tell you the same who knew him very well.
Great Question Zan..........thanks.
