Presley, Elvis/SUN records

Question
good morning;

i have a question about the validity of a SUN records outtake i saw on YOUTUBE.

BLUE MOON OF KENTUCKY

a number of "complete" SUN sessions cds showed an outtake,  with sam phillips saying at the end "thats a pop song now,  little guy'  or similar,  as 1:03 minutes long.

the Youtube long version,  apparently a different take,  is just over 2 minutes.

is this really an outtake from the SUN sessions?  why would this longer,  complete version have never been issued on any SUN sessions cd?

or is this some kind of fabrication?

thank you,

Hap

Answer
Hi Hap,

There are possibly thousands of  outtakes that haven't been published by Sun or RCA, for that matter. Elvis did hundreds of takes for most of his recordings, and only wanting the very best one released.

Since his death, demand has spawned many of the others he found inferior to be released, providing new material to fans.

This is something that while he was alive, would not have ever ever happened, so many of these recordings could still be virtually unknown.

We would have to have an expert compare the recording to others with Sam's voice to be sure. But in my mind, knowing how prolific Elvis was with sometimes 100's of versions of one song recorded, anything is possible!
