Question
what was his rank when he got out of the army.

Answer
Hello, thanks for writing.  Elvis was discharged from the Army on March 5, 1960, as a sergeant (or buck sergeant, as some sources refer to the rank, though "buck" simply means the lowest rank in a specific military category).  Several photos showed Elvis with staff sergeant stripes, but he did not earn that rank.  His rankings and dates of promotions through his military period are as follows:

Private, upon draft
Private, First Class, November 27, 1958
Specialist Fourth Class, June 1, 1959
Sergeant, January 20, 1960

I hope this answers your question.  If you would like further research or more info on this topic, please submit another question via the AE website, or you can contact me directly at mortis4@aol.com.

Thanks.

Expertise

Any questions on Elvis`s life and death are fine. I would prefer not to answer questions about sales figures, chart positions, or other simple statistical data (including trivia questions). Also, if you take the time to submit a question, please take the time to read the response.

Experience

I have consulted for two televisions programs (Rock-and-Roll Record Breakers on VH-1 and The Presley Family on The Family Channel), and I was previously the top-rated Elvis Presley expert at AllExperts.com (several years ago). I have researched many aspects of Elvis's life and death and am very well-read in these topics.
