Question
My Laser Jet 6P is plugged in to an electric outlet and the computer but it appears there is no power...and computer does not recognize the 6P printer (I tried reloading software) but it does recognize another HP and works fine..  It acts like something with a blown fuse???

Answer
Hi Tom,

It is probably more complex than a blown fuse. Probably the power supply is sensing a short-circuit (most likely in the High Voltage area) and it is completely shutting down. You may try unplugging the printer from both, outlet and computer and lave it for a day and try just plugging the printer to the outlet. If it comes up and can print a test page from the printer's control panel, you may try connecting it to the computer. Otherwise the printer is probably gone.
By the way, you don't mention any device between the outlet and the printer, so I guess you don't have any AC protection. Laser printers are very sensitive to power brownouts, if you don't have a protection device for the printer, you better get one soon. If you're relying on the power company's protectors installed at the meter, don't trust them too much, get yours as close to the printer as possible, and make sure it has a good ground.

Ricardo
