Printer mechanical problems - HP Deskjet 970cse Doesn't Pick Up Paper

Expert: Ricardo Agudelo - 11/4/2009

Question
My deskjet 970cse stopped picking up paper.  I have checked that the paper is not torn or wrinkled and that it is placed properly in the tray.  The printer acts and makes the sounds as if it is picking up the paper, but it does not do so. I changed the cartridges and the printer tries to print a test page, but no paper goes through.  The printer is older, but I love it and appreciate any help you may offer.  Thank you

Answer
Hi Mary Lou,

I know your problem is not a paper jam, but follow the procedure suggested in the link:

It may help to clear the condition that is preventing the paper pickup. If it doesn't work, it may have worn-out rollers. If so, you will have to contact HP and see if a replacement is better than a new printer.

Ricardo
