Printer mechanical problems/Laser Printer Malfunction

Question
I have a Brother Laser Printer Model HL-2140.  It was functioning properly until a red light on the panel started flashing indicating an error.  There was no paper jam.  I am unable to detect the source of the problem.  Can you help me.

Answer
Red LED

Thank you for your question.

If the red error LED is flashing by itself this indicates one of three potential problems with the printer. Either no paper, a paper jam or that the cover of the printer is open.

I would recommend running through the following steps with the printer on and check that the LED is lit at the end of each:
-Checking paper is inserted and fully in place, with all the necessary paper guides adjusted to size.
-Remove the paper tray, open all available covers/hatches (that do not require the use of a tool), remove the toner cartridge. Now have a thorough check over the printer looking for any traces of paper or even ripped fragments of paper that are inside the printer. Remove them carefully and put the printer back together.
-Open the cover of the printer fully and them close again firmly.

If the LED remains on then I can only assume that there is either a sensor error with the printer or a fragment of paper inside the machine that is not accessible. In either case there is not much you will be able to do as an end user so I would recommend calling Brother directly.

Hope this helps and I am sorry that I was unable to offer any definitive answers.
