Although my jam was in a Canon i860, the process of pushing in the cardstock and pulling it out unearthed my culprit: a fallen business card! Thanks for the suggestion

I couldn't get rid of the Brother MFC paper jam alert until I locked open the lid - as in setup - and closed it again. It must require this final step to reset! Now we know. Great printer.

Hi Joe
The black paper sensor switch was stuck, so I just pushed a little with a screwdriver and it works

Just wanted to ad this worked like a charm...I pushed through a peice of cardstock that comes in the mail like a postcard and it pushed the paper right out. You don't have to push it all the way through just where the paper is!!
