Printers/Printer USB Connection Fails

Question
Norman:
I have 2 identical Canon All-in-one printers MX870.
When Printer 1 is connected to the USB port it is recognized.
If Printer 2 is now connected to the same USB port, it is not recognized by W7. I tried a different USB port, and the system responds with an error message indicating that the printer is not connected.
The drivers were uninstalled and re-installed, with the same message....."Printer not connected".
When Printer 2 is replaced with printer 1 , W7 recognizes the printer.
Do you have any insight as to why one printer is recognized and not the other.
Any insights would be welcomed.

Answer
completely uninstall the driver...
reboot...
make sure driver completely gone...
reboot...
reinstall the driver...
if one printer works... and the other does not... then try upgrading the firmware for the printer that does not...
reboot...
test again...

if issue remains then either main board is bad or the usb port on printer is going bad...
