Question
QUESTION: Hi Norman:

I wife's Uncle gave us an HP OfficeJet G85 All-In-One Printer.

What we cannot find is the:  Power Adapter : Phone Cord : Power Cord : Parallel Cord.

Can you provide any suggestions/guidance where we might purchase these items?

Thanks,

Orrin

ANSWER: the only parts available from hp are the covers, the printhead and the cartridges... if it breaks... you are on your own... that being said...

power cord... find out how many amps and how many volts your machine uses and get a multi adapter power cord...

phone cord... buy a regular phone line online or at your local electronics store...

parallel cable... buy that online or at your local electronics store...

you might also need a parallel to usb adapter... for your computer... buy that online or at your local electronics store...

QUESTION: Thank you for your answer and sorry it has taken me so long to follow-up.

Our Phone Line is Verizon DSL.  Does that change the phone Line/Wiring that we need for our HP OfficeJet G85?

Thank you again.

Answer
tests to perform....

load paper into your machine...

connect up your machine to the phone line via the phone cable... make sure not to plug into the jack on the hp that has a a phone symbol... instead plug into the line...  sometimes the only guidance is the phone symbol... ok... now...once its all plugged up.... turn the machine on and then give it 10 minutes to warm up and then use a cell phone to call the house number... if the machine rings... excellent....  if it connects... you should your a series of beeps then a long tone.... hang up... give it five minutes then ask someone to fax you something... if the fax comes through and prints you are ok... if it does not then you need to try a phone filter and/or dsl filter if it still does not work then you either have a bad phone line or the machine is bad... contact your phone provider to test the line... if the line is good then the machine is bad...

test for bad phone line....
noise on the line... disconnect the machine from the phone line and plug in a regular phone... have someone call you from a quiet room and carry on a conversation and listen for staticky sound on the line... if you hear static... then you have a bad phone line... try the filters.... what is static?  the phone line should be perfecly quiet when no one is talking and the person on the other phone should be clear... if you find it hard to hear them... because of noise on the line then the fax machine will have the same problem...
