We have a 7 year old Canon BJC-610 color printer. We have started getting a message, upon turning the printer on, that the black ink (it has separate cartridges for each color) needs to be replaced. The ink cartridge is full (in fact I put a different full one in to see if it helped). I have the printer go through the process of cleaning the heads, yet the message returns. I took a q-tip swab and cleaned off what looked to be a lens sort of thing in front of where the ink comes out of the cartridge, but that didn't help either. It prints but without the black ink, so the pages are really useless.
Can you think of anything else we can do to get the printer working? I realize it is an old printer and may have seen better days.
Thanks,
Laura Simonds
Answer Hello Laura,
The average Inkjet printer heavily used lasts around 3 years as far as the print heads are concerned. I would say that the printer needs a new print head. With the printer being this old I am unsure Canon supports it anymore as far as parts. You can go to their web site contact their technical support. If you need to purchase a new printer I suggest purchasing HP. The newer Canons do not perform as the the older printers ( my opinion ). I have tested several types of printers and for working well and with very few problems the HP printers has out performed any others. Another printer that is very good is the Brother 4800 or 4900.
