Question Sir here in our printer(canon ir 1600-2000) I found that the error message is seen on the display area that is port 000000,please advice me to trouble shhot this with detail

Answer If the status indicates Printer not responding check the following.
If using a parallel port:
1)Ensure that the printer is on and the light on the printer is steady green.
2)Ensure that the parallel cable is securely connected to the computer and the printer.
3)Ensure that you are using a bi-directional parallel cable. An IEEE 1284 compliant cable is recommended.
4)Ensure that the printer is connected directly to the computer. Remove any switchboxes, parallel port external storage devices, scanners, or any other peripherals that are on the same parallel port.
5)Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer for 10 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the printer on.
6)Ensure that the parallel port mode is set to ECP mode.
7)Click on Start
8)then Settings
9)then Printers.
10)Right-click on Canon Printer icon
11)click on Properties.
12)Click on the Detail tab (Ports tab in Windows 2000 or NT). If the port indicates LPT1: (Printer Port), then you will need to change the mode to ECP under the System BIOS. Please refer to your PC documentation or contact your PC manufacturer for further assistance.
If the status still does not indicate that the Printer is on-line, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the printer driver.
If USB connection:
If the status indicates Printer not responding check the following.
1)Ensure that you are running Windows 98 or Windows Me or Windows 2000.
2)The USB interface is not compatible with Windows 95, Windows NT or Windows 3.1.
3)Ensure that the printer is on and the light on the printer is steady green.
4)Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to the computer and the printer.
5)Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer for 10 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the printer on.
6)Ensure that the USB port is selected in the printer properties.
a)Windows 98/ME/2000 users: Click on Start, then Settings, and then Printers. Right-click on the Canon Printer icon and click on Properties. Click on the Detail tab (Ports tab in Windows 2000).
b)Windows XP users: Click on Start then Control Panel and then Printers and Faxes. Right-click on the Canon Printer icon and click on Properties. Click on the Ports tab.
Make sure USBPRN## (Canon Printer). If it indicates USBPRN## (Device not connected), unplug the USB cable from the back of the printer, then plug it back in.
If the status still does not indicate that the Printer is on-line, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the printer driver.
