Question
I am currently a wedding consultant but would like to design handmade paper and paper for printing invitations. I made the invitations for one of my weddings by hand and it took forever! I want to be as professional and cost effective as possible. My question is what is the best way to accomplish this? And if I choose, what type of formal educational would help me? I.e. college program, college.

I really don't care as much about the printing. I'm more interested in embossing the paper and adding details (flower petals, etc.) to the paper for printing. I hope this is clear.

Thanks so much for your help!

Answer
Hi Joy,
I am in Australia so can't help much with the classes but there are a lot of Colleges in the US that have papermaking courses and there are also studios scattered around the country. A good place to start is the book arts web http://www.philobiblon.com/, this has links to lots of sites. There is also Deiter Freyer's papermaking site http://handpaper.freyerweb.at/about.php?lang=en.
I would recomend a class if there is one nearby, it is easy to learn to make paper but you'll get there faster with someone who has ironed out the glitches.
Cheers
Gail
